// datos del 2026-07-30, tomados de liquid.network/api/v1/liquid/pegs y /reserves
|---|---|---|---|
| BTC → L-BTC | Peg-in (federación) | Sin tope | 102 confirmaciones (~17 h) |
| BTC → L-BTC | Swap rápido (Boltz) | 0.25 BTC | Minutos |
| L-BTC → BTC | Peg-out (federación) | Sin tope | 15 a 60 minutos |
| L-BTC → BTC | Swap rápido (Boltz) | 0.25 BTC | Minutos |
| USDT → BTC / L-BTC | Mercado / swap | 30,000 USDT | Minutos |
| BTC / L-BTC → USDT | Mercado / swap | ~0.46 BTC | Minutos |
|---|---|---|---|
| APK directo · F-Droid propio · web | Los tres | Solo tiendas | F-Droid oficial |
Will there always be liquidity to convert your money?
It's the most honest question you can ask a wallet: if I put money in today, can I get it out tomorrow — even if it's millions? Here's the full answer, with the network's real numbers and no promises we can't back up.
Short answer: for Bitcoin and L-BTC, liquidity is effectively unlimited, because it doesn't depend on anyone buying anything from you — it's a 1-to-1 redemption backed by real, verifiable bitcoin. For USDT there are limits, and on this page we tell you exactly what they are.
// the difference between a backed redemption and a market: understanding it explains everything01Two very different things people mix up
This wallet has two kinds of conversion that work in completely different ways, and almost every confusion about "liquidity" comes from blending them:
- BTC ↔ L-BTC is a redemption, not a trade. L-BTC isn't another coin: it's your same bitcoin represented on the Liquid network. Every L-BTC in existence has a real bitcoin locked up backing it, one for one. Nobody needs to "buy it from you": you hand over bitcoin and receive L-BTC, or the other way around. That's why "there's no liquidity" simply isn't a thing here.
- L-BTC or BTC ↔ USDT is a market. Here someone on the other side must be willing to give you dollars for your bitcoin (or vice versa). That depends on how much USDT is available and who's offering. Here there are real ceilings.
02Where L-BTC comes from (and proof that it's backed)
Nobody issues L-BTC at will. It's created through a process called a peg-in: someone sends bitcoin to an address held by the Liquid Federation, that bitcoin is locked, and exactly the same amount of L-BTC is released on Liquid. For the reverse — a peg-out — the L-BTC is destroyed and the original bitcoin is released.
This means the amount of L-BTC in existence can never exceed the bitcoin held in custody. And you don't have to take our word for it — anyone can check it in real time. These are the figures on the day this page was published:
// figures from 2026-07-30, taken from liquid.network/api/v1/liquid/pegs and /reserves
That 100.066 % is the key part: there is slightly more bitcoin in custody than L-BTC issued. Never the other way around. If everyone wanted to exit L-BTC back to bitcoin tomorrow, the backing is fully there.
03Where Liquid USDT comes from (and its real ceiling)
Liquid USDT — what the app shows as USDt — is issued by Tether, the same company behind regular USDT. Neither the Liquid network nor we create it: Tether decides how much it places on this network, in discrete issuances, all visible on-chain.
Here's the first uncomfortable but necessary answer: that number is the absolute ceiling. There are about 97.5 million dollars of USDT inside Liquid, no more. That's plenty — far more than enough for any individual's normal use — but it isn't infinite, and it's exactly the kind of figure other apps won't show you.
04The conversion routes and their actual limits
These are the paths available today, with each one's real ceiling. And one clarification that's usually missing: these limits are per operation, not per day or per week. You can do one after another with no waiting; nobody assigns you a daily quota.
| Conversion | Route | Cap per operation | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| BTC → L-BTC | Peg-in (federation) | No cap | 102 confirmations (~17 h) |
| BTC → L-BTC | Fast swap (Boltz) | 0.25 BTC | Minutes |
| L-BTC → BTC | Peg-out (federation) | No cap | 15 to 60 minutes |
| L-BTC → BTC | Fast swap (Boltz) | 0.25 BTC | Minutes |
| USDT → BTC / L-BTC | Market / swap | 30,000 USDT | Minutes |
| BTC / L-BTC → USDT | Market / swap | ~0.46 BTC | Minutes |
Notice the pattern: fast swaps have caps; federation redemption doesn't. The swap cap exists because whoever provides the service must put up funds on both sides in advance. The peg needs none of that, because no intermediary is lending anything: it's your own bitcoin changing networks.
05So what if I want to move millions?
This is the real question. We'll answer it in parts, because the answer changes depending on what you're moving:
- Millions from bitcoin to L-BTC (or back): yes, no problem. That's done via peg-in / peg-out, which has no amount limit. It is literally the mechanism exchanges and institutional desks use every day. You just have to accept the timing: about 17 hours in, 15 to 60 minutes out. If you'd rather not wait and use fast swaps instead, you'll need to split the amount into several 0.25 BTC operations.
- Millions of dollars from USDT to bitcoin: yes, but not in one shot and not inside the app. Each operation goes up to 30,000 USDT, so a million is roughly 34 operations. It's doable, but at that size the sensible route is an exchange that supports Liquid directly, or an OTC desk where the whole block is priced at once instead of dripping it out. Push millions through small operations and the price will drift against you.
- And if EVERYONE wanted out of USDT at once? Then the limit isn't the wallet or the network: it's the 97.5 million that exist on Liquid and who's willing to buy them. That's the same risk as any stablecoin on any network, which is why it's worth being clear that USDT is a company's IOU, while L-BTC is your own bitcoin backed 1 to 1.
The practical rule: if your plan is storing value long term and always being able to exit, stay in bitcoin or L-BTC — liquidity there is structural and verifiable. Use USDT for what it's actually good at: moving fast, paying, or stepping out of volatility for a while. For large USDT amounts, plan ahead and split it up.
06Who controls all this? (and what you're trusting)
We're not going to pretend everything here is magically decentralized. These are the pieces and what each one implies:
- The Liquid Federation — 87 members, 15 of them running the servers that sign blocks and hold the locked bitcoin (figures from Q1 2026). They're exchanges, wallet developers and infrastructure companies across six continents. They guarantee the 1-to-1 backing, and they're also the only ones who can execute a peg-out — when you move L-BTC back to bitcoin, a member does it on your behalf. It's a different trust model from Bitcoin's: faster and more private, but with an identifiable group behind it. That should be stated, not hidden.
- Tether — issues Liquid USDT and, like any centralized issuer, can mint more, stop minting, or freeze funds. Your L-BTC doesn't depend on them; your USDT does.
- Swap providers — they're the ones putting up funds so a conversion happens in minutes instead of hours. Their per-operation cap is really a measure of how much capital they have on hand.
- You — the keys are yours at all times. None of the pieces above can move your funds: they can only be available, or not, to convert them.
07Verify it yourself, right now
You don't have to believe any of the above. It's all public and checkable without anyone's permission:
liquid.network/api/v1/liquid/pegs— how much L-BTC exists.liquid.network/api/v1/liquid/reserves— how much bitcoin backs it. Compare the two: the second should never be lower.liquid.network— the network explorer; look up the USDt asset and you'll see its issuances.api.boltz.exchange/v2/swap/chain— the fast-swap caps, live.
And in the app itself: the wallet reads balances straight from the chain, not from a server of ours. What you see is what's there.
08Why use Liquid with this wallet
Everything above is network data — the same for everyone. This is what BitcoinProg Wallet adds on top, stated with checkable facts rather than slogans:
- Your hardware wallet signs Liquid too. You can use Blockstream Jade, Coldcard (over USB cable or fully air-gapped QR) and our own BitcoinProg hardware wallet. And not just for Bitcoin: the device also signs your L-BTC and your Liquid USDT. Your private key never touches the phone, not even when you move dollars.
- The best-known app for Liquid USDT can't do that. Aqua, the reference in this space, works as a hot wallet only: it supports no hardware wallet at all. If you hold dollars on Liquid and want the keys to live on a separate device, here you can.
- We're independent. Blockstream Green — a great wallet — also signs Liquid with Jade, but Green and Jade come from the same company that makes the device. We don't depend on anyone: we have our own firmware and our own device, and we support other people's too.
- Our fee is published in a public file. It's 1% and
anyone can read it right now at
bitcoinprog.com/fees.json. No fine print, no margin hidden in the exchange rate; if it ever changes, you'll see it in that file. We don't know of another wallet that does this. - No account, no KYC, nobody's permission. We ask for no email, no phone, no ID. Download it as a direct APK, from our own F-Droid repository with a signed index, or use it as a web app. You don't depend on an app store approving it to reach your money.
- Security you can audit. Your seed is encrypted with AES-256-GCM under a key derived via PBKDF2 with 600,000 iterations; randomness comes from the operating system's cryptographic generator, and signatures use deterministic RFC 6979 nonces — the detail that prevents the mistake which has cost people funds in other wallets. It's all explained under Security.
- And the rest of what actually matters: multiple wallets at once, optional passphrase, two-factor verification (TOTP or email), PIN and biometrics, Tor through Orbot, and the whole app in 15 languages.

// comparison as of 2026-07-30, based on what each project documents publicly. Green is an excellent wallet and we say so gladly: our difference is the own device, the public fees and distribution with no middlemen.
One honest note, so nobody is caught out: swaps inside the app carry the per-operation caps from the table above — each provider's — they are not unlimited. Uncapped peg-in / peg-out happens outside the app, through a federation member. We're telling you up front, not afterwards.
In one sentence: your bitcoin can always move in and out of Liquid, because it's backed 1 to 1 and the backing is verifiable on-chain. Your USDT converts normally at everyday amounts, and for large sums you go in parts or through a desk. We'll never tell you "liquidity is infinite", because it wouldn't be true — we give you the numbers so you can decide.
